Have you ever been put off taking a shared e-bike in this hot, sweaty weather, thinking about all the hot, sweaty behinds to have been sat on that saddle right before you? Well, now there’s an answer. And what else to call it than the “cool cushion”?!

The new cushions made their debut recently in the City of Taizhou in our very own Jiangsu Province. There, 1,000 e-bikes from ride-share specialist, Hello Bike, have been mainly assigned to city centre-spots where demand is greatest.

It is understood that the cool cushions are actually custom-made seat covers. Silver-white in colour, the cushions effectively reflect sunlight, making them several degrees Celsius cooler than their black-plastic, sweaty cousins.

A local citizen, Ms Fu, said she thinks the move by Hello Bike is very considerate, while the riding experience is also very pleasant, reports Sina Finance.

But it’s not the only initiative of Hello Bike considerate of the high temperatures and mindful of those using and working with their shared bikes.

Working with the Taizhou City administrative authorities, Hello Bike provides high-temperature allowances, together with heatstroke prevention and cooling materials, to all its moped-operation-and-maintenance personnel in Taizhou.

The water bottles, sunscreen sleeves, sun visors, etc., provided to them help employees take measures to prevent heatstroke and cool down in hot weather to ensure their safety and health.

For they have little choice but to be out there. An employee surnamed Wang said, “It’s very hot, and I have to drink a lot of water every day. Several refills of this one-litre water bottle a day, in fact”.

Wang each day relies on big-data prompts on his mobile phone and verbal instructions from his colleagues to ensure that there are enough bikes in the City’s downtown, and now to also make sure there are 1,000 fewer hot butts riding the streets of Taizhou.
