This is the romance of Nanjing Metro, they are trying to tell us. With the theme of, “Feel the Love, Share the Love, Pass on the Love”, passengers at one station in Nanjing were greeted on the weekend with a surprise in the form of free roses and a provocative dance.
Saturday, 20 May, was China’s unofficial Valentines Day, chosen for the date being phonetically similar to the Chinese for “I love you”.
That was the perfect opportunity for Zhejiang-based, Fine-sun Media (风盛传媒), to get together with the Nanjing Metro and conduct the flash activity.
Daxinggong Station was the chosen venue, on account of its large footfall, given it is the intersection of lines 2 and 3.
And the chosen time was 13:14, as something of an internet buzzword that has come to be accepted as meaning “lifelong”.
Hence, “I love you forever” was the message of the promotion that saw Nanjing Metro staff, together with those of Fine-sun Media, leap into action at 13:14 to give away 1,000 roses to passengers coming and going through the station.
This they completed in just 7 or 8 minutes, but not before the now-almost-obligitory-in-China provocative dance to get things off to a somewhat steamy start.
For this, the organisers had even arranged the dancers to wear Metro uniforms, complete with the network’s logo on their epaulettes.
Interested readers can watch a portion of the dance via this link.
Reporters for the Yangtze Evening News on site spoke with a Ms. Huang, who was holding flowers given to her by her boyfriend in one hand and the newly received rose in the other.
With a smile on her face, she said, “The flowers sent by my boyfriend represent romance, while the flowers sent by Nanjing Metro represent happiness. After working in Nanjing for 4 or 5 years, Nanjing has given me a full sense of happiness. We are working hard and hope to settle in Nanjing”.
A spokesperson for Fine-sun Media said, “Sending flowers on 20 May expresses the Nanjing Metro Group’s concern for passengers and gratitude for their feedback”.
This was the first such flower giveaway held by Nanjing Metro. They plan in the future to launch more similar activities to bring further surprise and benefit to passengers.
