This day, 7 April, in 1938, China secured its first victory in the Second Sino-Japanese War, receiving a moral boost with the Battle of Taierzhuang, commanded by famous KMT general Li Zongren. As per the New York Times, “Military experts in Shanghai believe 42,000 men out of an army of 62,000 were killed when the Chinese cut the Japanese supply lines and struck a smashing blow at the trapped forces”.
