This day, 7 May, in 1861, Indian polymath and Nobel Prize for Literature winner Rabindranath Tagore was born. A fierce critic of Britain’s opium dumping on China and a denouncer of Japanese imperialism, in 1961, to commemorate his 100th birthday, China published the 10-volume “Collected Works of Tagore”, honouring his connecting of the people of China and India through poetry and literature.
