This day, 8 April, in 1968, China, the governments of Tanzania and Zambia signed protocols as to the construction of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway, for which the Chinese government provided interest-free loans of approximately ¥1 billion and 50,000 engineering/technical personnel. With 64 to give their lives, Premier Zhou Enlai said, “The impact of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway will be incalculable”.
