This day, 9 May, in 1997, during an interview with CNN, President Jiang Zemin said, “I don’t believe that China and the United States are going to have a conflict. China suffered grievously from foreign aggression and expansion in the past. The Chinese government and people love peace. And we are concentrating all our efforts on developing the economy and improving people’s living standards”.
