19 September 2018, will for Nanjing commemorate International Peace Day. Sponsored by the Chinese People’s Association for Peace and Disarmament, the Jiangsu Provincial Government and the United Nations in China, Peace Day is to “promote the establishment of a jointly built world of lasting peace and universal security”.

Outside Nanjing’s Memorial Hall of the Victims of the Nanjing Massacre hang posters promoting Peace Day, baring slogans such as, “Jointly creating the great cause of peace and keeping a promise of peace”.

On 13 December, 1937, the Imperial Japanese Army invaded the whole city of Nanjing in the incident that has become known as the Nanjing Massacre. Each year on this day, air raid sirens sound around the entire city in order to mark a minute’s silence in remembrance of the victims and to remind us of peace.

The General Assembly declared Peace Day as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. For the rest of the world International Peace Day will be celebrated on Friday, 21 September, 2018.

In 2015 The United Nations Member States adopted “The 17 Sustainable Development Goals”, covering a broad range of issues including poverty, hunger, health, education, climate change, gender equality, water, sanitation, energy, environment and social justice.

According to United Nations, this was developed the understanding that it would not be possible to build a peaceful world if steps were not taken to achieve economic and social development for all people everywhere, and ensure that their rights were protected.
