“Six o’clock already, I was just in the middle of a dream. … It’s just another manic NAT day.” That’s the deal for many in Nanjing today, while elsewhere in the city, it’s parole day for a select few of Nanjing’s residents, but they must wear a bracelet.

First though, as is now tradition, the latest numbers. Nanjing discovered four more cases of COVID yesterday, bringing the outbreak’s total to 227. All four cases were found in Jiangning District, reports The Paper.

Now to some more light at the end of the tunnel. Those living in locked-down communities near Nanjing Lukou International Airport have happily received a glimpse of how their living nightmare may come to an end.

At this morning’s press conference, Fei Lili, deputy head of Lishui District, revealed that the lockdown of Maojiawei Village in Shiqiu Subdistrict of Lishui District was lifted yesterday afternoon.

But that of course, is no reason to lower the guard. As such, a 14-day transitional period will be implemented in the formerly locked-down area.

During this time, residents are now permitted to enter and exit, but gatherings remain strictly prohibited. Non-village personnel may not enter, and while residents may leave their homes, they are not permitted to exit the village as a whole.

Public places in the village, such as recreational rooms, will continue to be closed and villagers are to continue to carry out monitoring their health at home for 7 days.

Most interestingly of all, to do this, Lishui District is providing intelligent body-temperature-checking stickers and bracelets to residents. By these means, through self-testing, residents’ body temperatures and health status may be continuously monitored.

The lockdown may be lifted, but with people unable to leave the village, supplies will need to be brought in. Essentials such as rice, flour, oil and other necessities are being centrally purchased according to the needs of residents, and other support services provided.

On day 7, another NAT lies in wait. Once all those results come back negative, the village shall return to the status of “normal prevention and control”.

Whatever that means. No matter what, perhaps we can think of it as the beginning of the end. After all, “These are the days when you wish your head was already sane”.
