Nanjing Lukou International Airport is to introduce self-service immigration inspection equipment to complete the approval of foreigners when entering Nanjing. The service is expected to begin before the end of August.

Citizens holding electronic passports will be able to use fingerprint identification to help them pass through smoothly. Mainlander fingerprints have been collected which will also assist with self-service at immigration for returning Chinese.

Foreigners holding the China permanent residence permit, a foreign electronic passport or a Chinese residence permit valid for 6 months or more may pass through the self-service immigration.

People entering who meet the requirements above can simply put their passports on the reading equipment, scan their fingerprints and have their photo taken.

It is understood that the entire duration of the self–inspection will be reduced to less than 20 seconds, which cuts out (on busy days) grueling immigration queues to enter Nanjing that have on occasion, lasted up to 2 hours.
