The Nanjing sky train built by the Nanjing Puzhen Ltd. Company was revealed to the public last week when it underwent test runs.

Behind Germany and Japan, China is the third country to “master” the technology while Nanjing is China’s first city to showcase it.

The train consists of two compartments that can hold over 200 passengers. It runs at approximately 65km per hour. It is battery operated which last for four hours at a time. According to Professor Yue Zhaohong from the Beijing Jiaotong University, construction time for sky trains is much shorter in comparison to subways.

In addition, state media has commented that sky trains are cheaper and less time consuming to build and are environmentally friendly. With a population of over 1.3 billion people, the most up-to-date technology to help assist the transportation needs of its people is of the utmost importance for China.
