Continued epidemic prevention efforts in Nanjing now include mandatory Nucleic Acid Testing (NAT) of all returnees to Nanjing from Hubei Province. The moves comes as China has created accelerated NAT for COVID-19 that can confirm cases in 45 minutes.
On Monday 13 April, a list of service points providing NAT for those returning from Wuhan City and Hubei Province in general was announced by Nanjing Municipal Health Commission. There is one service point for each of Nanjing’s 11 districts plus another in the state-level Jiangbei New Area. An English version of the list can be found below.
It is hoped that the tests shall be done using new technology developed by the Suzhou Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Technology, under the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). The new test for Covid-19 can confirm cases in 45 minutes on average.

The test is not only fast, but also small. Not requiring cold chain logistics furthermore means that the test kit can be easily stored and transported, reports Xinhua.
After clinical trials on only 600 people, the new test delivered an accuracy rate of more than 99 percent and was subsequently approved by the National Medical Products Administration for both sale and clinical use.
Both local residents and those returning from Wuhan will be comforted by news of the new testing points; the former gaining reassurance and the latter feeling less marginalised.
