Hotels, restaurants, cafes, bars, teahouses, beauty salons and gymnasiums. All are business seriously affected by the now-mandatory wearing of masks to combat the spread of 19-n-COV that originated in Wuhan, Hubei Province.

The announcement came late last night. All schools across Jiangsu province are to remain closed until 17 February. While children were excited by the prospect of an extended holiday, it was not long before Chinese parents began another kind of worry. What about their children’s education? As a result, most schools are now in the process of preparing online classes.

For those parents who are also restaurant owners, the concern is greater. While the bulk of restaurants close down for the traditional 1-week holiday every year, that their business is going to be shuttered for considerably longer is the big worry.

With restaurants closed and people shying away from venturing out, most have been buying their groceries online. The sheer weight of orders means the system is showing signs of strain.

An order from Auchan that last week took just an hour to arrive at your door won’t now be there until tomorrow evening. Suning’s online food delivery platform is also showing many items to be out of stock.

Nanjing Municipal Health Commission reminds that eggs and meat must be thoroughly cooked before consumption.

Not far from Nanjing, over the border in Anhui Province, railway workers have been battling snows to ensure medical supplies get through to Wuhan. The province is a key link in delivering assistance to Wuhan from cities across the Yangtze River Delta.

Setting off from Hangzhou East Railway Station for Wuhan yesterday was an emergency medical team comprising 141 nursing personnel, gathered from all over Zhejiang Province.

From our own Jiangsu, a 52-person-strong emergency medical team yesterday took high-speed trains from Zhenjiang, Nantong and Xuzhou, carrying with them more than 20,000 sets of anti-epidemic aid to Wuhan.

Finally, in Hefei, three thousand sets of protective clothing in 135 cases departed for Wuhan on a freight train at 3.05 am today.

Meanwhile, a 27 year-old-man was this morning detained on suspicion of provocation. The Paper reports that the man had published in a number of online groups the rumour that Nanjing was to be quarantined like Wuhan.
