Qian Yan is secretary of the Party branch of Jiangyin Bridge toll station of Jiangsu Yangzi Bridge Company. Having been a toll collector for 18 years, she has collected tolls from more than one million cars and is elected deputy to the 18th and 19th CPC National Congress.
Cars are coming and going in all directions, and what the toll collector does every day looks simple and boring, such as receiving the card, collecting money, announcing the receipt and change, and giving the ticket, but that’s not all. Based on “accurate” and “fast” operation, Qian Yan ranked top of the list of toll collectors that have collected over 100 million toll in 2009 for the total number of RMB140 million, and was titled the National Woman Pacesetter, National Excellent Worker of Transportation Industry, and Excellent Party Member in the province.
Telling the type of vehicle is an important and difficult part of toll collection, but Qian Yan knows what type a vehicle is and how much toll she should collect at a glimpse. In the contest of vehicle type determination organized by the company, Qian Yan made no mistake for three months in a row.
As a cross-river bridge on the main trunk of a national highway in the eastern coast, Jiangyin Bridge’s daily traffic has increased from over 10,000 cars when it was first opened for traffic to the current 86,000 cars, reaching nearly 140,000 cars on major holidays. The bridge is always in full-load operation during holidays, so ensuring safe traffic becomes an arduous task, and Qian Yan has created new working methods for that purpose.
With Qian Yan as an example, a series of exemplary employees have appeared at the toll station, who serve the customers wholeheartedly, work tirelessly to ensure smooth and safe traffic, and study hard to overcome technical difficulties. The Jiangyin Bridge toll station has won a number of honors in recent years, such as the National Civilized Toll Station, National Young and Civilized Unit, and National Demonstration Position of Female Role Model.
At the end of September 2017, the second squad of toll collection of Jiangyin Bridge toll station was titled the “most beautiful female toll team in China” in the national contest. As a demonstration unit, the squad has served about 13.16 million cars since 2015, averaging 410,000 ones per person, and prevented and handled 756 cases of toll evasion, recovering RMB67,290 of toll.
