You might think at first glance she is an internet celebrity, perhaps in the beauty or cosmetics fields. Then you see what her hands are doing. For this millennial, a lover of mechanical and electrical equipment since childhood, has surpassed two million social media followers.
乍一看你可能会认为她是一个网红，也许是美容或化妆品领域的。然后你就会看到她的手在做什么。对于这位从小就热爱机电设备的千禧一代来说，社交媒体粉丝已超过200万。
Lin Guoer was born in a small mountain village in Yanjin County of Zhaotong City in China’s southwestern Yunnan Province. With her parents divorcing when she was 6, Lin and her brother lived with her grandparents.
林果儿出生在中国西南部云南省昭通市延津县的一个小山村。 6岁时，父母离婚，林和她的兄弟与祖父母住在一起。
It’s a mountainous and highly forested region, where the village would often be hit by power cuts. As a result, many people kept a diesel generator in their home.
这是一个山区和森林茂密的地区，那里的村庄经常受到停电的影响。因此，很多人家里都备有柴油发电机。
“When I was a child, every time I encountered a power failure, I saw the grown ups take out the diesel engine and pull on its long cord. The machine roared, the power came back and the dark room lit up!”, said Lin, recalling how her passion for all things electromechanical was ignited. Soon thereafter, she was the one yanking on the pull-start cord.
“小时候，每次遇到停电，我都会看到大人们把柴油机拿出来，拉一下长长的绳子，机器轰鸣起来，电力恢复了，黑暗的房间亮了起来！”林说，回忆起她对机电一切事物的热情是如何被点燃的。此后不久，她就拉动了启动绳。
Lin’s grandparents provided for her and her brother to study in junior high school, but after she passed the high school entrance examination, her grandmother told her that their home did not have sufficient power for the required amount of study.
林的祖父母供她和弟弟读初中，但在她通过中考后，祖母告诉她，家里没有足够的电力来满足所需的学习量。
But faced with dropping out of school to work, her aunt earnestly advised, “You are a girl. You are thin and small. What can you do if you don’t study? Besides, you have passed the examination; you must not drop out of school”. With good grades, Lin opted for a school with reduced tuition fees for the best performing students and stayed with her aunt.
但面对辍学打工，阿姨苦口婆心地劝告：“你是个女孩子，又瘦又小，不读书能做什么？况且你已经考试了，不能辍学”。由于成绩好，林选择了一所学费减免的学校，留在了姑姑家。
Enrolling in Kunming University in 2013, Lin chose to study water conservancy and hydropower engineering. Returning home to prepare for exams, she came across a short video of her hometown’s spring scenery, which was unexpectedly popular. Lin studied the video, and began to shoot and share her own building of a bamboo house and repairing of electro-mechanical equipment.
2013年考入昆明大学，林毅选择了水利水电工程专业。回家备考的她偶然发现了一条家乡春天风景的短视频，出乎意料地火了。林女士研究了视频，开始拍摄并分享自己搭建竹屋和修理机电设备的经历。
At the time, there were few video bloggers showing rural life. Being also capable of carpentry, bricklaying and hydropower, Lin attracted attention but so too did questions, criticism and abuse follow.
当时，很少有展示农村生活的视频博主。林还擅长木工、砌砖和水电，因此引起了人们的关注，但质疑、批评和谩骂也随之而来。
But eager to make money to pay off ¥18,000 in debts, Lin persevered, blogging twice a day. But the videos did not take off as hoped. After falling into the vortex of chasing traffic, she was defeated by her anxiety. Lin sold her account and went to work in a pharmacy.
但由于急于赚钱还清 18,000 日元的债务，林坚持了下来，每天写两次博客。但这些视频并没有像希望的那样流行。陷入追逐流量的漩涡后，她被焦虑打败了。林卖掉了账户，去药店工作。
“But I still wouldn’t admit defeat, and I’m not willing to live too orderly. I want to try again”, said Lin, as the Yangtze Evening News reports.
据《扬子晚报》报道，林说：“但我还是不肯认输，也不愿意生活得太有秩序，我想再试一次。”
In July 2019, with a fresh mentality, Lin opened a new account. “I have learned to adjust myself and am no longer so eager for success. I want to plan well, sort it out slowly, precipitate the content over time, and show you my favourite parts of rural life”, she said.
2019年7月，林以全新的心态开设了新账户。 “我学会了调整自己，不再那么急于求成。我想好好规划，慢慢梳理，随着时间的推移沉淀内容，把我最喜欢的农村生活的部分展现给大家。”她说。
Now Lin often receives machinery needing work from fans all over the country. It usually takes a week to complete the repair, together with shooting and editing the accompanying video. And she does it all herself.
现在林经常收到全国各地球迷寄来的需要维修的机械。通常需要一周的时间才能完成修复，以及拍摄和编辑随附的视频。而这一切都是她自己做的。
With those two million followers, Lin hopes to be able to repay her student loan next year.
凭借这 200 万粉丝，林希望明年能够偿还学生贷款。
