Nanjing University held its graduation carnival last Saturday on “520”, in which the university put on a display of art pieces around campus.
Due to unprecedented popularity in attendance to the carnival, the university was trampled on by a stampede of people and various art pieces all over campus were kicked, sat on or destroyed.
Students and onlookers quickly resorted to Weibo, voicing their disgust and horror at the behaviour of people attending the event.
This comes just weeks before Nanjing is set to hold the Sino-European project lab Bridging the Dragon. Nanjing University of Arts alongside the local government and other organisations are set to support the event.
Nanjing production company One More Pictures has entered the arena as a new Chinese partner. This event aims to “become an inspiring think tank with open speeches and discussions”.
“It is our aim to continue the collaboration with Bridging the Dragon and make the lab grow into a larger Sino-European yearly summit that [can] bring together talents and resources and make our movies better and more global”, says One More founder Li Zhu. Currently under production is a selection of projects from the 2015 edition.
Presumably, Li will also be hoping that the dragon be suitably sedated, for fear of a repeat of the events of last weekend at Nanjing Uni.
