What’s the worst thing about flying? The security check. But now, our own Lukou is among the airports in China to have rolled out a new initiative for passengers to bypass those long queues altogether and head straight for that welcoming X-ray machine.
They’re calling it “Easy Security”. And on the face of it, that’s exactly what it is. With a couple of caveats.
Since it was officially put into operation on 21 December, by 30 December, the new dedicated channels at Nanjing Lukou International Airport had sped through more than 1,000 passengers and collected over 100 pieces of passenger feedback.
The new system is a cooperation with Alipay and Lukou is just one of many airports in China participating therein. It works by doing away with the human security inspection and replacing it with online registration.
“Very convenient and fast!”, was the feedback left by one happy traveller. “Faster and more comfortable than usual. Sum it up one word? Good”, said another, while a third person to leave their comments said, “It’s the first time I’ve been through this channel; the experience was very good”.
Passengers using the new channel generally believed that it reduced human intervention, making the inspection process more concise. Most said they would choose Easy Security again for their inspection, claims Lukou’s official WeChat account.
It is estimated that Easy Security improves traffic efficiency by 30 percent and can shorten the time taken for passengers to complete security procedures by as much as half.
The new system can be found by searching “民航公安服务” (civil aviation public security service) on Alipay, while the channel itself is located at security check channel 22 in Terminal 1 and channel D5 in Terminal 2. Easy Security accepts travellers between 08:00 and 16:00 daily.
And those caveats? Alipay real name authentication is required as is the advance purchase of a ticket for travel before the registration process can be completed. However, The Nanjinger has been assured by Lukou that there is no reason why foreigners may not be able to use Easy Security.
