Still no sign of a let up. More positive cases (and lots of them) of COVID in Nanjing translates to more tests in more places, more closures and more medium-risk areas, as Nanjing continues to face its biggest epidemic challenge yet; Omicron!

The city of Nanjing yesterday discovered another 26 cases of COVID, bringing the total in our 2022 outbreak to 61. While Jiangning remains ground zero, an additional 2 cases were reported in Qinhuai District and now Qixia District joins the fray, with five positives.

So that means the big shut down continues. Now, the closure of public spaces in Nanjing has been expanded to include all levels of libraries, museums, cultural centres, art galleries, monuments and other cultural venues. That said, some may be let off the hook by merely cancelling planned activities.

Entertainment is also now taking a hit, which means the temporary shuttering of the city’s internet cafes, nightclubs, KTV dens and mahjong parlours. The same goes for “A-class” indoor tourist attractions, reports PSA Nanjing (南京发布).

Outside, not that you would want to go with weather like today anyway, scenic spots are to limit visitors to 50 percent of peak capacity and strictly enforce the inspection of health codes, as well as the usual epidemic-prevention rigmarole.

Continuing from yesterday, there’s more news on the travel front. Nanjing has now suspended all group travel, and has closed travel agencies and shut down online travel enterprises.

And it’s all because of Nanjing’s high-risk area. That would be the Huxi Yaju Dongyuan Residential Community in Dongshan Sub District of Jiangning, which has been responsible for a considerable portion of the cases.

Its joined by the city’s medium-risk areas; also in Dongshan, stay away from Wuyi Shuian Jiayuan South 2, East Hill Street Anhe Homes 7 and the Dongshanjie Castle Bay Garden Community. Over in Moling Sub District, the Yin Lane 44 New Apartments is also classified as medium risk.

In Qinhuai District, Modern Building and Sha Zhu Lane 6, both in Hongwu Lu Sub District, are both medium risk, as is Qian Zhang Lane 22 in Chao Tiangong Sub District.

Finally, Qixia District also now gets its first medium-risk area; Block 5 of Wenkang Court in Maqun Sub District.

Little wonder, therefore, that nucleic acid testing is now also being rolled out in more parts of the city. If you live in Qinhuai, Jianye, Xuanwu or Gulou, get ready to say “Ah”!
