Jiangsu News

Getting to Yellow Mountain is a pain. There is simply no way to do it not involving an inordinate length of time. But that’s all set to change now that construction of a new high-speed-rail link between Nanjing and southern Anhui is all but set.

High-speed trains from Nanjing to Huangshan (Yellow Mountain) at present take 3.5 hours. More than a little odd, since that is also the time it takes to drive it. The reason is the trains go via Hangzhou.

No wonder that the public has of late been vocal in its wondering as to when this situation can be addressed.

Hence, the Nanjing Municipal Transportation Bureau replied on 9 August that it is planned to start construction of the new line in 2024. Completion is expected in 2029.

Specifically, the line is called the Ningxuan High-speed Railway, given it shall be a link between Nanjing and Xuancheng. The line will effectively straighten the route from Nanjing to Huangshan.

According to its feasibility study, the line will start from Nanjing in the north, pass through the City’s Jiangning District and Lukou Airport, to go on through Gaochun District and end at Xuancheng in Anhui Province.

Eight stations are planned for the route, among which Lukou Airport Station, Lishui West Station, Gaochun Station and Xuanzhou Station are to be completely new builds.

The entire Ningxuan High-speed Railway is to be 170 kilometres long, of which 127 kilometres shall be in Jiangsu Province, with the remaining 43 in Anhui.

As The Paper reported yesterday, 10 August, the Ningxuan High-speed Railway is to be an ultra-fast one, with a design speed of 350 kilometres per hour. So start planning a jaunt to the mighty Yellow Mountain for 2030!
