We are told we should not take public transportation and we are very aware of that temperature check when entering the metro. None of that, however, has stopped CCTV from creating a coronavirus infographic that takes the form of a metro map.
With thanks to our colleagues up in Beijing, The Nanjinger has today produced an English version of the infographic/metro map. A high-quality version can be downloaded via the link below.
Seven lines comprise the Coronavirus Metro System; the Work Line, Travel Line, Home Line, Outdoor Line, Medical Line, Home Isolation Line and the Washing Hands Line.

Among the advice on the infographic is to avoid carpooling and to disinfect the armrests when travelling by plane or train. We are also told that we should keep a supply of face masks in our store room. No advice is given as to where we might actually buy some face masks.
The Nanjinger’s favourite remains that reserved for the office canteen, namely “Eat More, Talk Less”.
The “Living with the Coronavirus” Infographic

The design team at CCTV were heavily influenced by the Beijing Metro map (they are rarely let out of the building, let alone the city), giving the infographic the same icon for line interchanges. The media giant has also come up with a catchy title; “Pneumonia Caused by New Coronavirus Public Information Protective Measures Roadmap”. We prefer “Living with the Coronavirus”.
Most of the advice is common sense, but the fact remains that people learn things in different ways. After all, a picture paints a thousand words. 30 percent of the human brain handles the task of processing visual information. Only 3 percent is used for hearing.

Column Five Media has published an excellent account as to why we love visual content so much. “The brain absorbs and synthesises visual information faster than any other stimuli, making visual content an incredibly effective medium.
“Crafted with intent, understanding and a solid framework, visual content succeeds in three core areas of value; appeal, comprehension and retention”.
The infographic as a way to easily understand complex messages. CCTV’s latest creation, therefore, is another powerful tool in educating the populace as to how to avoid 19-nCoV.
