Through September 2017, Nanjing and Henan police departments have worked together to bring justice to a man murdered in a factory 11 years ago. In 2006, Mr. Niu was working in a Nanjing factory. Feeling poverty stricken and in a moment of desperation, he planned to mug local driver Mr. Wang.

In his attempt to rob Wang of his cash, Niu, from Henan province, panicked and stabbed Wang. Stumbling out of the factory bleeding heavily, Wang fell to the ground and later died; Niu went on the run, where he fled to Xinjiang and remained for some time. Feeling enough time had passed, Niu then returned to his native Henan province where he later married and had two children. Rising up the ranks of the factory world, he later became a contractor and supervisor.

Niu’s luck was to run out when Henan police identified matches in data that they had received. Nanjing police then supplied information that had been collected over the past 11 years to Henan police who verified his identity. Nanjing police personally went to Henan to arrest Mr. Niu who is now under further investigation in Nanjing.

The minimum sentence for murder in China is 10 years to life and heavy fines or the death penalty. Sentencing is determined upon the nature and severity of the crime.
